‘Queen behaviour’: Taylor Swift is first female artist to hit 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify

Entertainment

Taylor Swift has become the first female artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

The streaming giant described the achievement as “Queen behaviour” – and it comes as the superstar continues to break records.

Last month, it was announced that Swift has achieved more number one albums than any other woman.

That comes as the 33-year-old continues to re-record her first six albums following a bitter dispute with her old label.

Swift is also in the throes of her record-breaking Eras tour – with estimates suggesting her globetrotting shows have made more than $1bn (£790m) through ticketing and merchandise.

A whopping 69,000 fans turned up to watch the opening night of her tour in Arizona, overtaking Madonna to become the most-attended concert by a female artist in the US.

It’s also been big business for Ticketmaster. Over two million tickets were sold on a single day last November, more than any artist before her.

Earlier this month, Swift announced that her next re-recorded album – 1989 (Taylor’s Version) – will be released on 27 October.

She’s declared that it’s her favourite yet – and it’ll feature five extra tracks that didn’t make it on to the original recording.

It was first released in 2014, with hit singles including Shake It Off, Blank Space and Bad Blood.
